01

The cover has one job

A cover photo has to earn attention at thumbnail size. It does not need to explain the whole property. It needs to communicate one clear reason to open the listing.

That reason might be a bright living room, a mountain view, a pool, or a beautifully composed bedroom. If three ideas compete in the same frame, none of them reads quickly.

02

Test the image small

Reduce the image until it is roughly the size shown in search results. The main feature should remain obvious, verticals should feel stable, and the brightest area should support rather than distract from the subject.

  • Prefer landscape orientation
  • Keep the focal feature away from interface-safe edges
  • Avoid large dark foreground areas
  • Use accurate, natural color
03

Interior or exterior?

Lead with an exterior when setting, architecture, or a major outdoor amenity is the strongest differentiator. Lead with an interior when the design, light, or view from the main room tells a more compelling story.

The right answer is the image that differentiates the stay most quickly, not a universal room type.

04

Improve before you replace

A useful angle with weak exposure may need finishing, not a reshoot. Correct light and color, verify the result remains truthful, and compare it at thumbnail size against the current cover.

A note on accuracy

Property advertising rules vary. Review every enhanced image against the original and disclose material or generated changes wherever required.
